“THE ARC MOVIE…. A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME”

This two-disc DVD set is compiled from old 8mm home movies which, fortunately for us, were filmed by Fickey Klevansky and Abe Stoller over 50 years ago!
.
Their old films were converted , reviewed, and painstakingly sorted and edited frame by frame by Laurie Fineberg and Jules Gordon. Laurie and Jules have, to the best of their ability, enhanced and restored the original footage inasmuch as technology allows old films to be enhanced.

As Fickey and Abe’s old 8mm movies covered a relatively short period of Arc history, we have added many still pictures from David Sandler’s wonderful book ,”100 Years of Arc Memories”, in order to try and cover some of those unfilmed periods. Our thanks to David for his years of work , without which our film could not cover the many generations of people that called the Arc ‘Home’.
Additional footage by Charles Goldman, Lionel Slier, Jules and Laurie have also been included to blend in with the original footage, to take you on this journey , and also bring you up to the present with the many changes having taken place.

Disc One of the set features the movies (including prize-givings, galas , sportsdays, outings and general daily lives and hobbies) , and disc Two features additional footage not included in the first disc , plus photos to try and cover most generations .

To the best of our knowledge, this is the one and only movie history of Arcadia. We set out on this project with the idea of keeping alive the Arc spirit of brotherhood and togetherness, which is as unique among Old Arcs as Arcadia was itself .
This film is therefore not about the people who quite randomly appear in it –( because they happened to be about when the cameras were rolling) - but about the old familiar places we all know so well and which have now made way for new developments. It is our ARC HERITAGE and OUR ONLY MOVIE ARC HISTORY!

Although it is not a Hollywood production , it will give all Old Arcadians, spread as they are throughout the world, a special opportunity to show their children and grandchildren the magical kingdom that was our home. It complements and adds to the ‘100 Years Book’, which most of you already own and cherish.
I can do no better than to quote some of the lyrics of my opening song for the movie –
‘The House On Oxford Road’… :
“We put this movie together from old films that we found,
Don’t curse if you don’t see your face in it,
At least you’ll recognise the grounds!”
And in the next song you will hear ;
“You stood in that spot,
And sat in that seat in the beautiful dome-shaped shul,
And even swung on those swings,
And swam in that unique pool, built on stilts high above the ground.”

Oh so true….….So , even if you do not appear , YOU WERE THERE!
Sit back with your family and friends and relive your youth. Maybe you’ll even be able to spot yourself or a long-lost friend. And may your journey through the Arc and your memories be good ones!
